Maradona

Hola Argentina and everyone else…

This is a random check-in and I do hope you don’t find it a disturbance. It is my curse to write randomly to people and it is a burden my friends must bear (“friends” because I feel you are one to me and I hope you share the tag).

For many reasons both obvious and non-obvious, I consider myself a veteran of grief, having lost loved ones early in life, grief is something I am comfortable expressing. Both my sorrow and joy can exist in one space.

For one, I know it hits harder when the world has moved on, when we no longer have the pat on our back or the fond memories others will share with us and when the world has truly really moved on because it must and we cannot stop it. It hits hardest when everything has settled down and we let ourselves forget for a little bit and reach out for the familiarity of our loved ones and at that moment, we either hit with grief or fondness.

It’s not easy to love a man, it is harder to love a man with so many parts and paths. A man that did whatever he felt and said what he wanted.

Maradona was easy to fall in love with, who wouldn’t? What he did with the ball was poetry. But Diego, not many got him and it is okay not to get him. He signed up to share Maradona with us and we got the best of him.

Diego was a beautiful contradiction and we cannot talk about the Legend Maradona acknowledging Diego, the man.

Whatever you are feeling, feel it, and let it move through you. The world has lost an upper case letter.
